Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corporation personifies a global hospitality family. From timeless brands like Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt to trendy up-and-comers from Andaz to Hyatt Centric, Hyatt continues to redefine every echelon of the hotel industry by prioritizing client service. That core focus on the customer made JLL the natural choice for Hyatt’s global headquarters relocation.
Hyatt came to us with two primary goals: to create a more collaborative work environment while also rightsizing employee-per-square-foot ratios. Leveraging our workplace strategy consultants, we identified the new 1.2-million-RSF, 54-story office development at 150 N. Riverside as the ideal place to execute on this new, forward-thinking workplace strategy.
Following the completion of a lease, Hyatt tapped our team to manage the interior build-out of its unique space (floors 7 to 17) with the following targets: using resources thoughtfully, building smart and innovating and inspiring. In response to Hyatt’s values, we targeted LEED Platinum and WELL certification as our tools to infuse health and wellness throughout the space.
In just 10 months, we brought to life a hospitality-infused environment including interconnecting stairs, a fireplace and a presentation theatre. The employee cafe and barista bar serve 400-plus people, approximately 20 percent of Hyatt’s employees are “free address,” with no assigned desk, and the final supported headcount is approximately 1,240 people.
Hyatt’s space is LEED Platinum-certified and targeting WELL Silver, having met WELL’s design and construction standards including light, air and noise requirements. Lighting features occupancy and daylight sensors, all paints, sealants, flooring, composite wood and systems furniture are low emitting and the project diverted 85 percent of construction waste from the landfill.
Thanks to Hyatt’s dedication to design and welcoming culture, employees now have a taste of the hotel experience Hyatt creates for its customers.
